Cookies and pixel tags, and how to avoid them
A cookie is a small text file that a web server sends to the user’s browser and which is stored on the user’s hard drive, allowing preferences like font size, communication language, device info, visit statistics, etc., to be remembered.
All browsers are set by default to allow cookies, but browser settings can generally be changed to refuse cookies entirely, block third-party cookies, or notify the user of each cookie sent.
Pixel tags are small pieces of code on a website that allow cookies to be read and placed on the web pages. They are activated when a user opens an email or arrives at a website, after which third-party cookies are downloaded or the fact that the user opened the email is registered.
MH uses the following cookies:
- Session cookies (temporary cookies), aimed at enabling the use of the service.
- Persistent cookies (stored on the user’s computer after the browser is closed), aimed at remembering client choices on MH websites.
More specifically, MH uses:
- Analytical cookies, which collect information about how the website is used. For example, which content pages are visited most or what visitors search for on the website. These cookies do not collect information that would allow the user to be directly identified. This includes, for example, Google Analytics and Hotjar cookies.
- Advertising cookies, which help to provide advertisements targeted to the user’s interests. For example, Facebook Pixel code has been added to the merlishomes.com site, and if you no longer want to see MH website ads on Facebook, you can disable this. Go to https://www.facebook.com/ads/preferences and delete the “Advertisers you’ve interacted with” option under Merlis Homes.
- Third-party cookies, like those from YouTube and Google Maps. Location maps and videos are not shown if you do not agree to the privacy policy. To make this technically possible, we use the privacy_embeds cookie created by the Avada theme.
The user has the right to refuse the storage of cookies on their computer. If you wish to do so, you need to change your browser settings.
